It is a food review from the “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” series. The guy visits Steve’s Brasserie at the New Continental Hotel (Millbay Road, Plymouth, PL1 3LD, UK) because the place received a zero rating in the Food Hygiene Rating inspection on July 22, 2026.
The reviewer walks in, sits down, and critiques the menu (prices higher than online, different dishes, a school style binder with plastic sleeves). He orders halloumi sticks (noting they look burnt and like “cheap fish fingers”) and a chicken fillet burger with fries.
He criticizes the presentation, the overly acidic sauces, the chicken being too thick and hard to eat, and the basic hotel atmosphere with wobbly chairs.
The waitress is friendly, and while the place isn't full at first, they are expecting a group of 32.
Is it safe to eat there?
That is exactly the question the video asks. Officially, a rating of 0 means inspectors found serious issues (regarding hygiene, facility cleanliness, and food safety management). It doesn't automatically mean you’ll die if you eat there, but it does indicate a high risk of contamination, and the local authority demanded urgent improvements.
As of September 2026, no public re-inspection with a better score had been released yet (according to news reports from early September, management claimed they were making fixes and awaiting a re-inspection). So, the video is right to raise serious questions about it.
